Welcome to Your Session: When you first arrive you will be welcomed into a spacious healing room with soothing music, the refreshingly light and diffused fragrance of pure essential oil, and ionizing Himalayan salt lamps illuminating the atmosphere, while being surrounded by the presence of nature through the windows of the treatment room. Once in the session room, you will be asked to fill out an intake form. This will give us an idea of your medical history, injuries, physical conditions, and any areas of pain.
Muscle Pain: As you may (or may not) know, every muscle in your body has thousands of muscle fibers. During your session we will use a variety of techniques to alleviate as many of these taut muscles fibers as possible. Some muscles will relax with just one session. Others may take a series to totally relax. If you would like to speed up the healing process, (and save money), we will teach you how to do self-treatment of these muscles so you can achieve pain relief, (on your own), between your massage sessions.
Goals & Techniques: After we have reviewed your information, we will talk with you about your goals for the session and decide together what type of massage and/or bodywork would be best. Even though you may have had a particular massage preference at the time you scheduled your appointment; on the day of your session, you may feel that you need a different type of massage. We typically incorporate a number of various styles and techniques and can choose whichever modalities are most appropriate for you that day.
Relax & Renew: If you’re wanting to just relax and bliss out … you can unwind your day with soothing music and aromatherapy while you enjoy the total relaxation of having your body melt into an amazing 4-handed relaxation massage experience. In addition to your full body massage experience, you will receive a foot soak, heat pack treatment, and reflexology for your hands and feet.
Specific Areas that Need Attention: If you have specific areas of pain you would like us to work on, we encourage you to be involved with the process; letting us know specifically which areas to work, how much pressure to use on each muscle, and the length of treatment for each area. By allowing you to take total control of your session, you can relax; knowing that you will never be taken beyond your tolerance level. The feedback during this work will increase your level of self-knowledge and awareness around the different muscles groups of your body and how they influence your daily lifestyle.
Undressing & Comfort Level: Rest assured, whether you are totally or partially undressed, you will be carefully draped the entire session and only have draping removed from the areas being worked on. It is often easiest for a therapist to work without the restriction of clothing in the way, but this choice is up to you. Your level of comfort is of utmost importance. Some people who are new to massage remain totally clothed for the entire massage, while others choose to leave on underwear or shorts. We can also work over draping if you prefer. Again … this is totally up to you. Once you disrobe to your level of comfort, you will lie face up on the massage table, underneath the top sheet. We will give you a few minutes for this process and will knock on the door to ask if you are ready before entering your room. To ensure your comfort, we have a specially warmed (and adjustable) plush padding on the massage table.
Talking During Sessions: Talking, is again, … up to you! We respect that many people do not want to be distracted from the blissful experience by a chatty massage therapist, so we will never initiate conversation during a massage. If, however, you have questions or would like to converse during the session, that is entirely up to you. As mentioned above, in pain release sessions we may ask for your feedback when we are doing release work on trigger points or fascia. This can also be accomplished with nonverbal signs or signals. If you just want to relax and not have to communicate, we are fully accustomed to using our intuitive abilities to determine just the right amount of pressure to work with muscle or fascia constrictions. If at any time, however, a stroke, stretch, or technique we are using goes beyond your tolerance level, be sure to let us know!
Please feel absolutely comfortable, at any time, to make a request to:
spend more or less time on certain areas
change your position to: face up, face down or lying on your side, to be more comfortable
adjust the face cradle
have extra pillow support, at your head, knees or ankles
use more or less pressure
and let us know if you are too hot or cold
Completing Your Session: Once your massage session is complete, we will leave the room so you can re-dress. Take your time getting up from the table. There will be a glass of water on the end table available for you to drink after the session.
If you have any questions or feedback about your session, please do not hesitate to call or email us.
